PHUKET, THAILAND – The 13th Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek saw some of the toughest sailing competition in any regatta ever in Thailand from 21 to 24 July. Not only did the record fleet of 47 boats and 500+ sailors and friends include top sailing talent from more than 25 countries, but the challenging and shifty wind conditions meant it was a competition of patience and tactics, testing professionals and novices alike.
Winners from Auatralia, Denmark, Canada, Singapore and the UK were celebrated at the closing party gala dinner presided over by Mr. Kalin Sarasin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and hosted by Cape Panwa Hotel, with the overall series prizes being presented by Admiral Kraisorn Chansuvanich, President of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand.
Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek kicks off the 2016/17 regional sailing circuit known as the AsianYachting Grand Prix – a collection of 12 sailing events across Asia whereby sailors cumulate points and an annual winner is awarded in June each year. Held under the auspices of the Phuket Yacht Club and with support of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Sports Association Phuket, the 14th Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek will take place 19th to 23rd July, 2017.
