SAMUI, THAILAND — Thai stars Thaworn Wiratchant and Prayad Marksaeng, who have each won the Queen’s Cup twice, will headline the popular US$300,000 Asian Tour tournament from June 16 to 19, 2016, organisers announced today.

Bangkok Airways, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Thailand, Thailand PGA and Asian Tour, provided details of the upcoming event in a press conference on Thursday in which the Queen’s Cup will be held at the challenging Santiburi Samui Country Club.

Celebrating its eighth edition, the Queen’s Cup is held in honour of Her Majesty, Queen Sirikit of Thailand.

Ms. Chanthip Thongkanya, Vice President, Office of President, Bangkok Airways said: “We are particularly excited to have organised this tournament for the eighth year in honour of our beloved Queen Sirikit. We have always strived to take Thai golf onto the international level and it is our hope that the tournament will draw a larger number of golf enthusiasts which consequently will stimulate Samui’s tourism.

“The previous years’ tournaments were very well received and followed by fans around the region which Samui has already become a new destination for golf tourism. The tournament’s pro-am will be held on June 15 to give an exclusive chance to local amateur golfers to compete with Asia’s top pros. Moreover, the last two days of the tournament will be broadcast live on PPTV Channel 36.”

The Queen’s Cup will feature many of the Asian Tour’s leading golfers. Apart from title holder Prayad and Thaworn, the local hopes will also be carried by Prom Meesawat, Thammanoon Sriroj and Pariya Junhasavasdikul while leading pros from around Asia will include the likes of Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh, Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, Malaysian Danny Chia and Rashid Khan of India.
